Art Auction 2015 Most Successful to Date

Laguna Art Museum’s 2015 Art Auction fundraiser raised nearly $300,000 on February 7, 2015 for the museum’s education and exhibition programs, making it the most successful in the event’s 33-year history.
The highlight of the evening was the scintillating 20-item live auction led by Sotheby’s dynamic auctioneer Andrea Fiuczynski. In fact things got so energized during the live auction that Ms. Fiuczynski had to remove her stylish silver jacket and catch her breath with a short rest sitting on the edge of the stage. Highlights of the live auction included Laddie John Dill’s Light Sentence which sold for over value at $27,000 and Danny Heller’s Palms and Architecture which was valued at $3,400 sold for an incredible $13,000. All 20 items featured in the live auction sold.

Art Auction 2015: California Cool’s silent auction component featured museum-curated works of art by an additional 100 California artists. 84% of all offered artworks sold.

In addition to art, the nearly 400 guests enjoyed a sampling of cuisine from local noteworthy restaurants Wine Gallery, Side Door, Tortilla Republic, Slap Fish, and Simply Sweet Cakery; “California Cool Fusion” cocktails by Tito’s Handmade Vodka; coffee and desserts from Urth Café; floral design by Laguna Nursery; and production design by The Showpros Group. Attendees had the chance to mingle with featured artists, fellow collectors, and the museum’s curators and executive director. Led by Art Auction 2015 co-chairs Sara Heeschen and Deborah Lake; committee members Tina Cook, Jeannie Denholm, Vanessa Helin, Karen Morally; and Director of Special Events Sarah Strozza, Laguna Art Museum’s annual Art Auction has become one of Orange County’s most exciting art and social experiences. This event is a major annual fundraiser for the museum’s education and exhibition programs.

Giancristiano to exhibit at Los Angeles World Airports

LosAngeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs presents: "Out of Thin Air" curated by Enilda Van Hook

LAX Terminal 1East Hallway April 2012 - October 2012

Los Angeles, The City of Angels as it is known, is a magical and enchanting landscape of diversity in the arts and culture bringing together influences from across the world. The exhibition titled “Out of Thin Air” reflects upon the cultivation of these fine arts in Southern California where the illustrious sunshine creates a unique ambiance and glow in which to paint, plein-air or in-studio, traditional oils, wood carvings or emerging digital and film technologies; each are represented in a significant collection of Paintings and Mixed Media works exhibited in Terminal One Gate Two between April 2012 and October 2012.

While the city celebrates The J. Paul Getty’s initiative for Pacific Standard Time across the West with shows revealing post war artists working through the 1980’s … “Out of Thin Air” materializes to continue the conversation started by the PST and celebrates the contemporary local artists working in the present day, while simultaneously giving homage to the artists that came before them. Using the language of symbols and abstract ideas, both with Japanese Characters or texts from comic book references, as well as both traditional handmade paintings and digital technologies, these artists weave stories, fictions, film industry fantasies and mythological lore, metaphysical meditations and demonstrate ecological reverence as some of the themes that become visible “Out of Thin Air”.

Enilda Van Hook

Eleven artists representing the immediate LAX Airport community and surrounding local areas, including several alumni from Otis College of Art and Design (the art school which borders the runway of one of the nations’ busiest airports); are exhibiting their original Paintings and Mixed Media. Mentioned in alphabetical order, these artists derive a certain amount of inspiration, interpretation and motivation, “Out of Thin Air”. Also these artists influence each other by virtue of living, working, practicing and experiencing artwork in the LAX community ofLos Angeles.

Mark X Farina, Steve Fujimoto, Michael Giancristiano, Shizuko Greenblatt, Scott
Grieger, Kenneth Ober, Renée Fox, Michael Massenburg, Holly Tempo, Luke Van
Hook and Hung Viet Nguyen demonstrate the diversity and complexity of
creativity from the inspiration of practicing their art inLos Angeles.

Giancristiano to Exhibit a Panel on the Artists Tower of Protest

Artists' Tower of Protest

Installed at Sunset Boulevard and Hilldale Ave. in West
Hollywood.

Through - March 24 2012

Organized by LAXART and the Getty Research Institute for the Pacific Standard
Time Performance and Public Art Festival Curated by Cesar Garcia, LAXART Senior
Curator

Originally conceived by the Los Angeles Artists’ Protest Committee and
designed by sculptor Mark di Suvero, The Artists' Tower of Protest was erected
on a lot on Sunset Blvd. and La Cienega in 1966 as a symbol of collective
dissent against the Vietnam War. Surrounded by hundreds of artist-designed
panels, The Artists' Tower of Protest will be re-staged in 2012 as a way to
reflect on this important historical moment in Los Angeles and to open a
dialogue about the role of arts activism today. It is considered the focal point
of West Hollywood's Pacific Standard Time celebration, formally called
PST...It All Started Here.
